What began as a spotlight has grown into a storytelling series centering Black women as curators of their own sonic worlds. Each installment offers readers and listeners a metaphorical seat inside a Black woman’s listening space, inviting them to experience the emotional, intellectual, and material dimensions of her collection. From the Black woman who just bought her first record to the lifelong collector with decades of listening behind her, A Seat In Her Collection affirms that every Black woman’s relationship to vinyl is personal, eclectic, and worthy of being shared—celebrating collecting as an act of self-definition, connection, and cultural memory.
